On May 25th our instructors Louise and Katie headed to Bedfordshire to compete in the Horse and Hound festival of eventing at Keysoe Equestrian Centre. They took riding school horses Phoenix and Wizard. It was the first 3 day event most of them had been to so whilst being very excited to take part they were also a little nervous. They competed in the 70cm section, as this was extremely new to both horses who have never competed in a one day event before let alone a three day event!
After the dressage, Wizard was on a score of 30 and Phoenix on a score of 28. This meant both were lying in the top 10. It was a large class of over 40 competitors, so this was a great start. Next was cross country, it was a long, technical course and there were some tricky combinations. Not many people were making the time as the weather was humid and the course was rather hilly. We were amazed that Louise and Phoenix completed the cross country course with no penalties or time faults! Wiz became a little green and had a couple of stops at a scary ditch (he has a real ditch phobia that we are working on!) but we were extremely proud of both horses.
On the final day was the show jumping. It seemed to be a lovely course but there was a very bustling atmosphere around the arena which could put a lot of horses off. Both horses jumped well but Phoenix stole the show by jumping a super clear round which meant Louise and Phoenix were the overall champions!! Out of 45 competitors they came out on top finishing on their dressage score. We were extremely proud of them both and great fun was had by all. They won some fantastic prizes and got a lot of press coverage on the Horse and Hound website and even in their magazine.
