Welcome to Stag Lodge Stables
Stag Lodge Stables is a friendly,
British Horse Society and
ABRS approved family run riding stables located on the edge of richmond park. As well as adult rides and lessons we are one of the largest pony club centers in the UK and we boast a wide selection of over 40 horses and ponies which we are sure satisfies all our clients needs.
We are very lucky to have the ideal location for hacking in
Richmond Park as we are adjacent to the Robin Hood Gate entrance to the park so we have no road work at all to access the park (the gate is closed to cars). We are spoilt for choice when it comes to hacking as we also have Wimbledon Common which is only a short walk (50 mtrs) away from us here at Stag Lodge. All this and we are only 30 minutes from central London!
We start children as young as 3 years old on our adorable Shetland ponies and we go all the way up to our H16.2+ steady cobs and athletic sport horses. This wide range of horses enables us to cater for the nervous beginner to the more advanced rider. We offer individual and group lessons in one of our arenas. Even in the depths of winter we can offer lessons until 8pm as our arenas are floodlit.
In the next few months we will be opening a second stables, less than 1 mile from Stag lodge which will have an olympic size dressage arena (60 x 20), an olympic size jumping arena (60 x 40), a gallop and a small cross country course. As well as all of this on our 11 acre site we will be starting Riding for the Disabled and will also be offering full livery and horse share options. All this less than 5 minutes from Stag Lodge.
Most of our hacking is done in
Richmond Park which is a National Nature reserve and at 2,500 acres is the largest Royal Park in London. Richmond Park is home to around 650 free roaming Red and Fallow deer and is also an important refuge for lots of other wildlife including flocks of brightly coloured parakeets! The pastoral landscape of hills, woodlands, ponds and grasslands set among so many ancient trees offer a peaceful respite to visitors and locals alike.
Richmond park was one of King Henry VIII's favourite hunting parks and he lived nearby at Richmond Palace for the first part of his reign. The Park has been designated as a site of specific scientific interest and was originally enclosed as a hunting ground in 1637 by King Charles I. He introduced 2000 deer to the park and to make sure they did not stray he built a brick wall eight miles around the park which is still there today.
So whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced rider we look forward to welcoming you soon.
